Museums and Culture
Who doesn’t love a good museum? Whether it is ancient history, history, science or engineering that you are interested in, there are some great local museums and plenty of culture right our doorstep. Why not spend an hour or two going back in time and seeing how man shaped our landscape. With the early settlements such as Avebury, and Stonehenge with its Neolithic past, Wiltshire really is the birthplace of Britain.
If you’re interested in culture, visit any one of the Amesbury History Centre, the Alexander Keiller Museum, the Breamore House and Countryside Museum, the Museum of the Iron Age or the Salisbury Museum, and see the people who lived here centuries ago come back to life. Our personal favourite is the Drainage Collection in the Salisbury Museum featuring everyday items that found their way into the medieval drains of Salisbury!
Wiltshire also has a great aviation heritage and the Museum of Army Flying and the Boscombe Down Aviation Collection should not be missed if you are all interested in planes and flying. The Whitchurch Silk Mill is also a fantastic example of our engineering and cultural past, as well as life in Victorian Britain.
